20th Maccabiah Chess Regulations

Please read carefully the 20th Maccabiah Chess Regulations, click on read more for further details.

  1. ORGANIZATION
    1. The Chess Committee of the Twentieth Maccabiah will be responsible for the Chess Competitions of the Maccabiah.
    2. All the Chess Events will be played according to the FIDE rules and regulations, its interpretations and supplements will be binding.
    3. The venues and times of the Chess Competitions will be determined by the Chess Committee of the 20th Maccabiah, and the player will be notified accordingly.
    4. The results of the game will count towards the FIDE ratings.
    5. The Chess Committee is authorized to make changes as deem necessary.

 

  1. CLOSED TOURNAMENT – International Grand Masters
    1. Participation in this event is open to International Grand Masters’ to International Masters and players who have at least 2500 ELO but are not International Masters yet.
    2. Ten players will be able to participate in the event, league style.
    3. Match will be played by the Fischer method (match length one hour and a half for the first 40 moves and then 30 minutes Ko + 30 Seconds increment for each move from the first move)
    4. Determination of first place will be as follows:
      1. The number of points scored by the player.
      2. According to the Berger System (sum of all the points of those opponents whom they won against, plus the sum of half the points of those opponents the drew against).
  • The result between the players that score the most points.
  1. Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.

 

  1. CLOSED TOURNAMENT­­: International Masters
    1. Participation in these events is open to International Grand Masters, to International Masters, and players who have from 2300 ELO up to 2500 ELO but are not International Masters yet.
    2. Ten players will be able to participate in the event, league style.
    3. Match will be played by the Fischer method (match length one hour and a half for the first 40 moves and then 30 minutes Ko + 30 Seconds increment for each move from the first move)
    4. Determination of first place will be as follows:
      1. The number of points scored by the player.
      2. According to the Berger System (sum of all the points of those opponents whom the won against, plus the sum of half the points of those opponents they drew against)/
  • The result between the players that scored the most points.
  1. Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.

 

  1. OPEN TOURNAMENT
    1. Participation in this event is open to all Fide rated players, and each country may send three unrated players.
    2. The event will be held according to the Swiss System in nine rounds, and a computer will do the pairing.
    3. The match will be played by the Fischer method (90 minutes +30 Seconds increment for each move).
    4. Determination of first place will be as follows:
      1. The number of points scored by the player.
      2. According to the Bucholtz System.
  • According to the Median System
  1. Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.

 

  1. YOUTH TOURNAMENT
    1. Participation in this event is open to all Fide rated players, and each country may send five unrated players.
    2. The event will be held according to the Swiss System in nine rounds, and the pairing will be done by computer.
    3. The rate of play is (90 minutes +30 Seconds increment for each move).

 

  1. Determination of first place will be as follows:
    1. The number of points scored by the player.
    2. According to the Bucholtz System
  • According to the Median System
  1. Blitz game, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.

 

  1. ORGANIZATION
    1. These regulations are but one part of the complete 20th Maccabiah rules and regulations, and must be read along with the instructions found in the “Basic Rules and Regulations and Disciplinary Procedures”.
    2. In any event of a discrepancy between the regulations as they appear here, and the “Basic Rules and Regulations”, the regulations as they are here will apply and be binding.
    3. The Sports Committee of the 20th Maccabiah has the authority to make changes in any or all the technical regulations.
